SIGA DAMU INC:

A MACUATA PROVINCIAL TRADING COMPANY

Community-owned regenerative aquaculture from Macuata, Fiji

Who we are

A Community-Owned Enterprise for Sustainable Prosperity

Siga Damu Inc is a community-owned company representing seven iTaukei cooperatives across Macuata Province. Together, these communities steward over 180,000 hectares of qoliqoli, including the Great Sea Reef (Cakaulevu).

Established with support from Matanataki and WWF Fiji, the company farms and processes sandfish sea cucumbers while connecting sustainably sourced seafood and crops to markets, ensuring more value remains within local communities.

By combining traditional knowledge, science, and strong business practices, Siga Damu Inc strengthens livelihoods, supports reef stewardship, and promotes long-term community wellbeing.

Our Model

A Community-Owned Model for Sustainable Growth

Siga Damu is a community-owned company built to coordinate farming, processing and market access for primary products across Macuata. By combining cooperative ownership with shared logistics, sales and quality control, the model helps local communities capture more value while building a stronger and more sustainable reef economy.

A Community-Owned Model for Sustainable Growth

Our partners are central to how Siga Damu was created and how it will grow. The company emerged from a long-standing collaboration between WWF Fiji, Matanataki and the traditional custodians of Cakaulevu, the Great Sea Reef.

WWF Fiji has worked alongside Macuata communities to develop and renew fisheries management plans and locally managed marine areas, bringing science, conservation expertise and on-the-ground support. Matanataki has partnered with qoliqoli owners to co-develop the business model, lead technical trials, and provide ongoing change management and investment readiness support.

Together, these partners helped design Siga Damu as an investment-ready, community-owned business that strengthens reef resilience while building sustainable livelihoods.
